The Grey Line Documentary

An Indigenous Identity Story

We respect and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past, present and future. We acknowledge the stories, traditions and living cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on this land and hope that by sharing this story we can continue building a brighter future together.

 The Grey Line

LP Visuals is proud to announce our work on The Grey Line, a stolen generations identity film, created by Halo Films and Life Films. Directed by Scott Quayle, this story follows Helen Dwyer, who was removed from her parents at three months old under the governments ‘protection’ policies. Helen was raised in the suburbs of Perth by a loving middle-class family and until she was fourteen, she believed she was their biological daughter. Once Helen discovered her identity, she began to walk the grey line: not white, not black, but lost somewhere in the middle. The Grey Line is Helen’s story of hurt, a longing to find her true self and to finally be accepted for who she is.

Behind the Scenes

LP Visuals director Laundon Peacock was Director of Photography of The Grey Line. Working with Director Scott Quayle, Laundon’s role was to set the visual style for the film, ensuring the imagery matched the emotive story and had an impact on the audience. Working with a light crew over many weekends, Laundon opted for a mostly handheld approach for the film to bring a real and authentic feel to the story. This handheld footage was overlayed on top of an emotive interview, sweeping drone shots, re-enactment scenes and archive.
